Leonardo DiCaprio gets his due, wins SAG award for ‘Best Actor’

Earlier this month, DiCaprio took home the Golden Globe award for “Best Actor in a Drama” for his lead role in The Revenant.

He bested his fellow nominees Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Johnny Depp for Black Mass, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, as well as Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl.

DiCaprio’s SAG acceptance speech was quite moving, since he thanked his director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, as well as the cast and his parents for inspiring him to pursue acting as a career since he was 13 years old.

He was previously nominated for the SAG award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role” for his acting work in such motion pictures as The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator and J. Edgar.

As Digital Journal previously reported, DiCaprio donated $3.4 million to Ecuador.

With his wins for the “Best Actor in a Drama” Golden Globe and the SAG award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role,” this makes DiCaprio a front-runner to win the “Best Actor” Academy Award next month.
