‘Furious 7’ shoots for No. 4; ‘Age of Adaline’ goes for romance

A slow down for one weekend will not kill what is shaping up to be a good year.

“Furious 7” just could win another round to make it No. 4 at the top. It could do so with only around $20 million, too. It may be a battle for second place between the PG-13 newcomer “Age of Adaline” starring “Gossip Girl’s” Blake Lively and “Paul Blart 2.” It also stars flying wonder Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn.

There is another newcomer with “The Water Diviner.” It is not in enough theaters to compete, but it may make some waves. It is directed by Russell Crowe. He also stars in the R-rated war drama.

Weekend
1. “The Age of Adaline” – 2,900 theaters
2. “Little Boy” – 1,045 theaters
3. “The Water Diviner” – 300+ theaters

But, “Ex Machina” gets in more theaters as it expands this weekend. So, there is plenty of non-superhero fare this weekend to explore.

Another one is “Little Boy” and that may be more interesting to track. It is aimed at the now-famous “faith-based” crowd. It is about a boy who seeks to end World War II and get his dad home. Kevin “Paul Blart” James is in this one, too. James has two movies that are far apart in content this weekend. “Little Boy” also stars Emily Watson, Ben Chaplin and Michael Rapaport. It is rated PG-13.

But, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and its team are out in full force. That film has officially opened overseas and will be big, there. It will be no slouch in North America either as it opens May 1, with Thursday previews April 30.
