On working with world-renowned Romanian pop star Alexandra Stan, he said, “It’s really amazing, as you can imagine. I love working with her, as she is a kind, talented, hardworking artist. We really connected every time we entered the studio to practice the choreographies. She inspired me and she always does. Honestly, I can say that although the choreographies are mine, it’s impossible not to see her ‘color’ in them because I made them with her in my mind and this is how I see her.”
On his influence to get into choreography, he said, “It might sound like a stereotype, but the passion for dance grew on me since I was a little boy. It was my mother’s idea for me to attend dance classes, and at the beginning I wasn’t too happy about it, as I was very shy and I was embarrassed by the fact that I had to invite girls to dance with me. But as the time passed, it became a part of me and all my thoughts and ideas are now movements and images that people can see on stage or on TV. I really love it, it gives me energy for life.”
He added, “From my point of view, a choreographer must learn something new from everyone he or she works with. If I were to choose, I’d say that Sheryl Murakami (Beyonce’s choreographer) and Nika Kljun (Kylie Minogue’s choreographer) were among the artists who influenced me the most. I had the chance and honor to learn a lot of dancing techniques from them. But at the same time, I worked hard to be surrounded by amazing people and, right now, I can say that my biggest influences are the people I work with. We inspire each other.”
Rengle is a choreographer for seven years now and these are the best years of my life. “I am extremely excited to discover what comes next! It wasn’t something planned. I mean, I didn’t wake up one morning wanting to do a choreography, nor was it forced on me. I think it developed in time. Now when I look back at my first choreographies I feel kind of embarrassed but also proud, if that makes sense. I’m glad that now I can combine choreography with artistic directing. People actually trust me with that,” he said with a laugh.
His proudest moments include working with some of Romania’s most beloved artists such as Inna and Alexandra Stan. “They offered me their confidence when it came to directing their artistic shows. Another important moment in my career was when I started teaching workshops aboard, including in the U.S. Last but not least, last year I became the choreographer and artistic director of the shows ‘The Voice Romania’ and ‘Romanians Got Talent’ and that was a real milestone of my career. Don’t get me wrong, but I hope that next year I won’t even have to mention these anymore because I will have a whole new bunch,” he said with a smile.
On his future plans, he said, “As a young artist it figures that I’ve got a lot of dreams! Other people very dear to my heart and I have recently created an international dance/talent agency and the first one in Romania that promotes high skilled dancers and choreographers. The agency is called World Wide Creative Agency and it currently has all the popular demanded dancers from Romania signed. My plan is to help this agency grow more and, at the same time, help the most talented dancers show their true potential. This is what I’ve been working on and this is my current project but I’m sure my heart will want more and more pretty soon.”
Rengle revealed that he already filmed a new dance video in New York, which he is releasing at the end of February.
For aspiring dancers and choreographers, he concluded, “Dream big and work hard! Anything is possible, you just have to do your best and have confidence in your talent. It can sometimes be tiring and frustrating, but it’s always worth it! And never give up when it’s hard because you never know where the next big thing comes from or how close you are to it. Sounds like a cliché, but I can guarantee that any person who made it will tell you the same thing. Oh, and also, if you don’t have that much faith in yourself, fake it.”
