Donny Osmond talks Paramount show, 2016 plans, industry longevity (Includes interview)

Regarding his upcoming show at The Paramount, Osmond said, “It’s going to be a musical experience, because I have been doing this a long, long time. When the audiences show up, it is so much fun, and they are having such a good time. You got to give them the old hits, but they also want to hear about my win on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ all the special effects and the multimedia. It’s a huge show. It is going to be a lot of fun.”

When asked what motivates him from day to day, Osmond said, “I have been doing this for so long and I love the fact that I grew up with the word ‘variety.’ A lot of these artists and bands now are one-trick ponies and they come up with a certain sound and that’s who they are. That’s why I love certain bands that expand a little bit more, and they come up with different styles of music such as pop and rock. I’m doing one of my smooth jazz hits and country and everything in between.”

For Osmond, the key to longevity in the entertainment industry is “variety.” “When you come to one of my shows, you really don’t know what to expect. You always like to under-promise and over-deliver. That’s why our show in Las Vegas has lasted for so long. We were supposed to be there for six weeks back in 2008, and this is going to be our eighth year. The show is always changing, so that is one of the secrets to longevity,” he explained.

Aside from being a multifaceted entertainer, Osmond is a loving husband and father to five children, as well as a grandfather to eight grandchildren. When asked how he balances it all, he said, “It can be a crazy life if you don’t balance it. You have to know where your priorities lie. I am home now and I designed this tour where I can do some shows on the weekends, and come home.”

Osmond concluded our conversation by furnishing his definition of the word success. “It is fulfilling who you are as an individual, whether it be artistically, a family-man or a businessman. I like to consider myself all of those. Success is balancing all of those at the same time,” he said.
