‘Community’ to return on March 17

Yahoo on Tuesday released a short video with Community cast members and even creator Dan Harmon, talking at first about the show without mentioning it by name or announcing the new date. Then the video starts flashing the crucial information: it will be back on March 17, and it will be exclusively on Yahoo Screen.

Screen is Yahoo’s free video streaming service.

Joel McHale, who plays Jeff Winger on the show, sums up why audiences should get into it: “It’s the best show in the history of all viewed anything,”

The premiere, the Verge reports, will feature two episodes, followed by a new episode each week for its 13-episode run.

Original cast members McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong will all be involved. Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown are noticeably absent, the former because he’s working on his own comedy on FX and the latter to take care of her ailing father.

Season five regulars Jonathan Banks and John Oliver will also be absent. In their place will be Paget Brewster (seen in the above video) as well as Keith David.

The show has had quite the turbulent history since its third season, when it was unceremoniously yanked from NBC’s mid-season schedule, prompting fans to create the #SixSeasonsAndAMovie hashtag in support of the show.

The show hit many more speed bumps, including the firing of creator Dan Harmon, only for him to be re-hired for season five. The show was cancelled after season five, and rumours had it being acquired by Hulu before Yahoo signed on in an eleventh-hour deal.

Yahoo has hinted that this new season may only be the beginning for the little comedy that could, though it remains to be seen if there will someday be a Community movie.
