Chinese actress Angelababy endures face exam for court

Angelababy’s real name is Yeung Wing, but she’s affectionately called by her nickname “Baby.” Angelababy is a combination of her English name and the “Baby” nickname.

The “did she or didn’t she have plastic surgery” story began in 2012 when Beijing beauty clinic Ruili alleged that the actress, model and singer changed her looks under the surgical knife.

An article on the clinic’s website stated Angelababy’s plastic surgery was a failure, resulting in an unnatural chin.

The actress disagreed and sued the clinic for 500,000 yuan (about $108,350). Since that time, she has made numerous court appearances, which resulted in a favorable ruling last May. However, the clinic apparently didn’t agree and appealed the decision.

This resulted in a judge suggesting that the dispute be settled by Angelababy, 26, having her face examined by medical doctors “to certify its authenticity.”

She reported to the set, that is, the clinic Thursday, without makeup, to show her natural beauty.

In a public physical exam, the movie star had her face x-rayed, her mouth checked and her face prodded.

During the process, pictures were posted on state television and Weibo, China’s microblogging Web site.

Chinese media reported that renowned plastic surgeon Qi Zuoliang performed the exam in front of the star’s lawyer, notaries and numerous reporters.

Dr. Qi said, “Baby’s entire head and facial bones do not have any signs of incisions.”

Angelbaby has always said her current look derives from a German paternal grandfather and corrective dental surgery. Rumors of face-altering surgery have followed the performer for years.

Just last week the actress married actor Huang Xiaoming in a lavish wedding.

Huang defended “Baby.” In an interview last year, he said “Actually, she sometimes look quite ugly to me. I’m not an idiot, I definitely can tell she hasn’t had plastic surgery, sometimes she doesn’t put on make up and she really looks like those ugly pictures of her.”

This is not the end of the story — at least not in the court of public opinion.

One Weibo user posted, “Baby did not have any cosmetic surgery. Looks are bound to change from when you are a teenager to an adult!”

Another commenter wrote, “Now try a different surgeon without giving him “hongbau” (Chinese for an envelope full of cash).

A ruling on the defamation case is pending.
