Actress Courtenay Taylor talks ‘Fallout 4’ and future plans (Includes interview)

Fallout 4 has been amazing from the start,” she said. “I did not realize initially how huge this game would be. It has been a gift that has kept giving throughout, from the amount of work I thought we would be tackling when we started, to the protocol that we established in recording over the 2 years with our director, Kal-El Bogdanove, to the amazing results that Bethesda delivered with the finished game. I’m incredibly fortunate to have worked with some of the very best writers and production folks in the industry. Bethesda was just killer — they gave lots of time to record, material chock full of love and loss (and sarcasm – oh we love the sarcasm!) and male and female characters that were equal in scope — It was like no other experience I’ve had.”

She added, “Fallout fans have been incredible — what a wacky, wild and enthusiastic bunch! Initially there were people who weren’t into the idea of voiced protagonists, but Bethesda was very thoughtful in announcing Brian (T. Delaney – male player voice) and me a few months before the game dropped, which is rather unusual for a game company. I think it definitely paid off — it gave people time to get used to the idea of how voiced protags might be an opportunity to deepen their game play experience, and the chance to get to know us on social media. We made a lot of friends on Twitter and such before the game launched and that fostered a really positive reception of both us and the added element of player voices. I’ve had contact with a lot of fans that said initially they were unhappy about a voiced player but they did change their mind and felt like it was a real value-add, which makes me deliriously happy.”

For Taylor, Mad Max was a joy to work on. “I loved running around on the volume in those crazy suits — it really takes your imagination to the next level and it’s so nice to work with other people after spending a lot of time alone in the booth,” she said.

On her future plans, she said, “I have some new games coming out in 2016 that are sadly under iron-clad NDAs. I did an episode of Two Broke Girls that will air in February so keep an ear out for that (typecasting!) and Regular Show is back for another season on Cartoon Network so I’m hoping Starla will drop in. I’ll be doing lots of Cons (Florida, Tennessee, and England are already on the calendar) and traveling to Trinidad and Guyana. We have some family history in Guyana and will be going to celebrate 50 years of Guyanese independence in May – it’s gonna be phenomenal.”

Each day, she is motivated by the love of her craft. “I am motivated by the amount of fun I have at work, the people who watch and play, and how much I love the people I work with. Acting is my passion, and I just want to do more and more of it! I’m so inspired by the talent I come into contact with every day and I am always learning something new from these kickass directors and developers. I’m so eager to get in the booth and try new things and apply what I learn to other jobs and life in general. Also, I really want to use whatever resources I have to do some cool philanthropic stuff. I’m a huge supporter of Doctors Without Borders and many animal and environmental preservation efforts, so I’m not entirely sure how that will shake out but it’s on the table for 2016 as well,” she said.
