In Unreal, Kelly stars as Jeremy, a role he plays opposite Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer. “That is exciting. It is really cool to get to go back and play and look forward to work again,” he said.
Aside from Unreal, Kelly is known for his portrayal of Cutter Wentworth on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live. “I never thought I would enjoy working on a soap opera. It was like being around a great family,” he said.
He also had television appearances on Army Wives, True Blood, and his film roles in the Transformers series. “The Transformers roles were so much fun. It was just like being a little kid,” he added.
In addition, Kelly served in the military, and completed four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, prior to moving to Los Angeles to return to acting. “That was a good learning experience, and it was a good way to grow up,” he said.
As a result, Kelly is a huge advocate for the Wounded Warrior Project, a charitable organization that offers a variety of programs, service and events for wounded veterans of the military actions. “It’s a good charity that a lot of soldiers are involved with and support, so I figured it would be a good way to help in whatever way I can once I started becoming more popular,” he said.
Kelly wrote, directed, produced and starred in the short film Cope, a story of two special operations soldiers who return from war with post-traumatic stress disorder. “It was really cathartic. It is a really good film,” he said.
He listed Helen Mirren as his dream female acting partner. “Preferably a romantic scene,” he said.
