According to figures released Wednesday by investigators charged with Operation Hydrant, some 1,433 men have been identified as suspects of sexual abuse against children.
The list of suspects includes some high-profile names, including over 70 politicians, about 178 celebrities and seven professional athletes.
Statistics are based on cases of alleged abuse since the investigation began last year.
Investigators fear the number of cases of abuse could range into the “hundreds of thousands.”
Of the documented cases of alleged abuse: 154 incidents reportedly occurred in schools, about 40 inside religious institutions and about 75 from inside children’s homes.
Alleged abuse was also documented inside sports stadiums, juvenile detention centers and even sports venues.
Officials are estimating about 116,000 total reports of child sexual abuse this year. That figure represents a 71 percent increase since 2012, officials report.
Likewise, the number of cases reported daily continues to climb, investigators said, with some of the cases going back many years, even decades.
They’ve called these latest revelations into child abuse the “tip of the iceberg.”
