Video shows what the extra shoelace hole on your shoes is for

The video, which has been viewed more than 20 million times, explains what the extra shoelace hole is for.

The video, which was published by Illumiseen, a company that sells LED safety accessories, explains that the extra shoelace hole is known as a lace lock or heel lock, and it is to help you prevent heel blisters if your shoe ends up sliding up and down while you run, bike, hike or even walk.

The company goes onto explain that you create the lock by threading the shoelace on the same side via the hole, and on each side you will form a loop, and then the opposite lace gets sent through the loops. From there, you tie your shoes as you would normally tie them.

According to Illumiseen’s about page, they sell LED based products that are designed at delivering safety and value to their customers.

Aside from the heel lock, there are other ways to prevent blisters, which includes wearing two socks at a time and putting Vaseline on your feet before you head out for a jog or run.
