The video, uploaded by the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, has gone viral on Facebook. A few days ago, the park posted about the rhino on Facebook, saying it was born last Tuesday.
Since being posted to Facebook, the clip has been viewed more than 700,000 times, while on YouTube it has been viewed almost 2,000 times, at the time of this writing.
The rhino, named Kianga, made her public debut on Friday. Since being born, Kianga has been watched closely by her mother. The mother hasn’t even let Kianga’s brother or father get close to her yet.
Kacy, the young rhino’s mother, is said to be tolerant of the other rhinos that are curious about the baby, but she is keeping them at a distance. The park said Kianga has a lot of energy and she is curious, so Kacy is going to have her work cut out for her.
Kianga will be nursed from Kacy for up to a year, and during that period she could gain around 100 pounds per month. As of now, she weighs around 120 pounds.
When Kianga is all grown, which will be at around three years old, she could weigh up to 5,000 pounds.
