The petition has gotten over 150,000 signatures. It hit 100,000 signatures on Saturday. The petition cited policing benefits, as well as financial and employment benefits.
Since the petition has over 10,000 signatures, the government is expected to respond. As of now, the petition has been waiting for six days for a response from the government. If a petition gets more than 100,000 signatures, then it will be considered for a debate.
The petition claims that cannabis could bring in more than $1 billion in taxes every year, as well as save more than $600 million on policing it and create 10,000 jobs.
The petition to legalize cannabis is not the only popular petition. Another popular one is a bid to allow transgendered people to self-define their legal gender.
There is also a petition that calls for the immediate halt of the use of neonicotinoids on crops, which the petition says will save the bee population in the UK.
Both of those petitions are also awaiting for a response from the government.
