According to an affidavit filed in the case, police say Charles Williams and Tremond Allston fired at least four bullets into the deceased man, Chauncy Howard, 25, of Pittsburgh, shortly after 2;30 p.m. Sunday, and then jumped in a waiting red Jeep and fled the scene, a witness told detectives.
Two Pittsburgh police officers who were in the area of the shooting, heard the gunshots as well as a radio call reporting the shooting and responded. An off-duty paramedic told officers that Howard was deceased.
While en route to the scene of the shooting, another police officer spotted the red Jeep that a witness reported seeing Williams and Allston get in, adding both were carrying handguns, and began to follow it.
After observing the Jeep’s failure to stop at a stop sign, the officer attempted to pull the Jeep over and it continued to flee the area, The officer reported that a total of five males were inside the Jeep.
The Jeep came to an abrupt stop after traveling several blocks and both William and Allston fled on foot, but not before stating “they loved each other,” the court document says. Moments before the Jeep stopped, the officer said he saw one of the back seat passengers throw a gun out the window, which was later recovered and identified as a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun.
An Allegheny County sheriff’s deputy guarded the three young males who were also in the Jeep, while officers searched for Williams and Allston.
Williams was found a short time later hiding behind some furniture on a nearby porch, and was carrying a clip to a .380 caliber handgun. The .handgun was found outside the same residence, hidden on a basement window-well, police allege.
Allston was found running between two nearby houses and when apprehended told police, “That ain’t have nothing to do with me bitch, I ain’t involved in no shooting,” police wrote in the court document.
An unnamed witness told police that after the shooting both Williams and Allston ran up to the Jeep and said “Hurry up, hurry up,” both carrying handguns.
Police allege in the court document that after testing it has been determined that both handguns were used in the shooting.
Police have charged both with homicide, possession of a firearm by a minor and conspiracy to commit homicide. In addition, Williams faces charges of a felon being in possession of a firearm as a result of a previous robbery conviction.
Both are being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond and face a Jan.22 preliminary hearing.
