Benjamin Crawford, 21, and Nicollas McLeod, 20, are also being charged for three other robberies that happened at a bank in downtown, besides the stabbing incident that occurred on February 9.
A 45-year-old man was wounded fatally when he was stabbed around 2 pm, inside the Scotia Place food court bathroom at 100th Street and Jasper Avenue. According to Edmonton police acting detective Michael Walkom, the men attacked using edged weapons, with the victim suffering serious stab wounds. Though the police had no update on the condition of the victim, they believe that Crawford, McLeod and the victim knew each other. Without elaborating the connection, detective Walkom stated that drug use is believed to be a factor in the incident.
He added that after investigations commenced, the police where able to find a connection between McLeod and six other individuals, to three personal robberies that occurred at a bank in downtown at 101st Street and Jasper Avenue
In two of these cases, the victims who were withdrawing money from the ATM were confronted by an armed male demanding money, who then escaped after robbing them. In the third case there was no weapon involved, but the money was robbed.
Though police have not released the names of the six people involved with McLeod, they were charged with weapons related offence and robbery. They mostly acted as look outs for the perpetrator, police said.
Crawford and McLeod were charged with aggravated assault, robbery and possession of a concealed weapon dangerous to public.
