Global warming critics might have found their new mascot. Real-estate tycoon Donald Trump attacked the climate change theory at a recent speech at his Trump National Golf Club in Westchester, Il.
According to the New York Post, he said: “With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore.”
He went on, saying: “Gore wants us to clean up our factories and plants in order to protect us from global warming, when China and other countries couldn’t care less. It would make us totally noncompetitive in the manufacturing world, and China, Japan and India are laughing at America’s stupidity.”
The audience of 500 reportedly stood up and cheered Trump’s statements.
As the Daily Mail reports, many scientists have been forced to explain how the record snowfalls in the U.S. do not disprove man-made global warming, while other believe climate change could have contributed to the storms.
They also face a growing movement of climate change sceptics in Britain and the US. “The scientific community has been forced onto the back foot following claims that climate data has been ‘manipulated’ to bolster the case for action on carbon emissions.”
Gore received his Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his anti-climate change film An Inconvenient Truth.
