Uploaded by the Second Chance Campaign, seeking to oppose gun laws such as Stand Your Ground, the video begins with Fulton saying how this Mother’s Day will be her first without her son Trayvon, who was shot by Zimmerman several months ago.
Fulton goes on to say 30,000 moms lost their children this year to “senseless gun violence. Nobody can bring our children back. But it would bring us comfort if we could spare other mothers similar pain.”
Seated firmly and speaking without any emotional cracks, she concludes, “Join Florida by calling upon the governor of your state to reexamine Stand Your Ground laws…to keep our families safe.”
Within a day of YouTube exposure, the video has already racked up almost 19,000 views.
Fulton is receiving an outpouring of support since the tragedy. “Thanks to a massive donation from fellow Miami-Dade County employees, Trayvon Martin’s mother will be able to take about 8 months of paid leave from her job,” according to media reports.
The man charged in the Trayvon’s shooting death, George Zimmerman, says he fired in self defense after he was attacked and beaten by the teen, the Orlando Sentinel sums up. ” Gov. Rick Scott announced a task force to review the [Stand Your Ground] law, which met for the first time this month and resolved to kick off a statewide round of public hearings June 12 in Sanford.”
