Toronto Mayor Rob Ford diagnosed with abdominal tumor

Late Wednesday night, Humber River Hospital diagnosed Ford with a tumor, a release stated. During a press conference at the hospital, Rob’s brother Doug, also a Toronto politician, noted “Rob’s in good spirits.”

It isn’t a small tumor, said Dr. Reuben Devlin, the doctor in charge of Ford at Humber River.

Based on a CT scan, the tumour is in Ford’s abdomen, the doctor said. They will need to perform a biopsy to learn more. Dr. Devlin added Ford has been dealing with abdominal pain for months but “today the pain became unbearable.”

Dr. Devlin pointed out he’s not aware of Ford having a medical history of tumors.

In 2012, Ford spent two days in Humber River Hospital with what he described as “a little throat infection,” according to the Toronto Star.

Currently, Rob Ford is deep in a campaign to be re-elected as Toronto’s mayor. Torontonians vote on Oct. 27 to decide their next leader, which is shaping up to be a three-candidate race. When Doug Ford was asked if he would replace his brother, he didn’t reply. He only said more on Ford’s campaign would be announced tomorrow.

Ford has been embroiled in a sea of controversy in the past year, due to his repeated drug use and admittance to a rehab facility in northern Ontario. He maintains he is sober and does not mingle with drug dealers.

In the latest poll, mayoral candidate John Tory is leading the pack with 40 percent, and Ford is a distant second at 28 percent.
