No, it wasn’t enough, and when shop manager Janet Kentworthy arrived at work at the British Heart Foundation shop on Tuesday morning, she found something rather peculiar.
A pile of brown hair at the foot of her chair, The Wisbech Standard reported.
She realized the burglars had used a pair of office scissors to give their hair a quick trim. While freshening up, perhaps they forgot or didn’t realize that police can trace a person’s DNA through their hair, Metro reports.
“Who breaks in and gives themselves a hair cut?” she said. “It was a big pile of brown hair on the floor. So strange.”
Another break-in also occurred on the same night at another charity shop, The Norfolk Hospice. In this instance thieves smashed in a pane of glass in the front door and crawled through, EDP24 reports. The thieves then stole the day’s earnings.
When the thieves broke in at the Heart Foundation Shop, located in Market Place, they kicked down the door.
“It is senseless, but also unpleasant to think people have been in the shop and rifled through the drawers and made themselves a drink,” Kentworthy said.

Mavis Pett, deputy manager of the Norfolk Hospice said she was saddened that burglars had stolen money meant to help others, per EDP24.
“Our money goes to help those who are terminally ill and dying. We provide day therapy, home care and support for patients, carers and the bereaved,” she said. “The hospice has just moved to a brand new place in Hillington, near King’s Lynn and funds are desperately needed to help with that.”
“To think somebody has taken money to help those people is disgraceful,” she added.
The break-ins occurred some time between 5:00 p.m. Monday January 5 and early morning Jan. 6, EDP24 reports.
