There is now a swimming cap for beards

Virgin Trains, the UK train operating company, has developed a prototype product called the Lycra cap. The cap is designed to minimize facial hair shedding.

The rail company describes the device as an innovative swim cap for bearded men. The swimming cap fits and looks like a traditional swimming cap, except it extends to cover the chin and it presses the beard closer to the face.

The cap can also be adjusted when needed, and it can be reused, according to Daily Mail.

The beard cap will be trialed with those competing at the Great North Swim, which Virgin is partnered up with. The competition takes place later this month at Lake Windermere. Virgin is hoping the cap will become popular with athletes.

It’s worth noting that the beard cap may come at a good time for those with beards, because the Daily Mail reported that 46% of surveyed men in Britain has decided to shun the clean shaved look for a bearded look, with 22% of them opting for a thick beard.

The event director at Great North Swim, Alex Jackson, said that their swimmers will surely appreciate Virgin Trains’ efforts, and the cap may very well solve the problem known as ‘facial hair drag’ and encourage more people to take the plunge.
