The 19-year-old woman reportedly was thrown from the watercraft and had one of her arms maimed by a propeller, according to the Coast Guard.
Authorities were alerted to reports about 7:45 p.m. Saturday of a woman who’d fallen overboard during a pleasure cruise around the harbor.
The woman’s arm reportedly was severed just below the shoulder, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.
The ship’s operator, Benjamin P. Urbelis, 33, a Charlestown attorney and owner of the “Naut Guilty,” has been charged with operating the watercraft while under the influence.
He is due to be arraigned in a Boston Municipal Court later Monday.
Medics and first responders arrived on scene and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s shoulder. Authorities have confirmed the woman’s limb was severed after she fell from the boat and struck the propeller.
There were about a dozen people on board the boat at the time of the incident, and at least some of those aboard the watercraft dove into the harbor in an effort to rescue the woman, according to interviews with witnesses.
Authorities still aren’t sure what exactly led to the woman falling from the boat. Massachusetts State Police are still investigating.
