Ted Cruz wins Iowa Republican caucuses: U.S. media projections

Republican Senator Ted Cruz has won the Iowa caucuses -- the first vote in the US presidential race -- in a tight contest Monday with frontrunner Donald Trump and Senator Marco Rubio, US media projections showed.

US networks CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and ABC News all predicted the result in Cruz's favor over the billionaire Trump and Florida lawmaker Rubio, who were in a battle for second place.
