Sky News is reporting a police spokesperson said the 13-year-old boy has been detained on murder charges in the killing of a male teacher, and the wounding of three others, a female teacher, and two students.
Local news sources say the teenager arrived at the high school around 9.20am local time (8.20am UK time), and reportedly targeted and attempted to attack a female teacher and her daughter first. The school is located in the working-class neighborhood of Sant Andreu.
A male substitute teacher entered the classroom in an effort to stop the attack and is believed to have been shot in the chest. According to local media, the substitute teacher had only been working at the school for a few weeks. The female teacher and her daughter are believed to have suffered non-threatening injuries.
Also injured in the attack was a pupil who was stabbed with a knife the teenager was carrying. The 14-year-old was taken to Sant Pau hospital with a stab wound to the chest. The student’s condition is not known at this time.
Initially, the regional police spokesperson would not confirm what kind of weapon was used in the attack and killing of the substitute teacher. But the OlivePress is reporting that Spanish National television and other news outlets have confirmed the weapon was a crossbow.
