Eight dead, 427 rescued on blaze-hit ferry, doubt over passenger list

Italy said Monday that the number of dead recovered after a car ferry caught fire in the Meditteranean had risen to eight and that 427 people had been rescued.

The total of 435 leaves 43 people unaccounted for when compared to the names on the passenger list. However, officials said they could not be sure the list was accurate.
