Ronaldo equals Messi’s Champions League record

World footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo equalled rival Lionel Messi's Champions League single season scoring record with a goal for Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

The Portugal star scored in the 57th minute of the quarter-final first leg tie at the Bernabeu to put Real 3-0 up and match the 14 goals Messi scored in the 2011/12 season.

Brazilian international Jose Altafini, who also played for Italy, also scored 14 goals in the 1962/63 European Cup for AC Milan.
