The government warned women that if they post underboob selfies to their social media accounts, then they might be violating computer crime laws in the country, according to Reuters.
The 2007 Computer Crimes Act bans material that may cause damage to Thailand’s security or cause public panic. The act also says that obscene computer data that is accessible to the public is banned .
Offenders may be sentenced to five years in jail, says the culture ministry.Those who violate the law may also be faced with a fine of up to around $3,035.
Anandha Chouchoti, a ministry spokesman, said that when people take underboob selfies, you can’t see their faces. He continued to say that they can’t see who they belong to and it can encourage other people to do the same thing. Chouchoti continued to say that they can only warn people to not do it, and that they are inappropriate actions.
The ministry didn’t clarify how they would identify offenders.
The ministry has been criticized for being overzealous when it comes to censoring films, television and music, as well as some Western cultural practices.
