The baptism took place on Sunday in the Sistine Chapel, according to Reuters.
The Pope departed from his prepared text and decided to take time to let the mothers know that they could give their children milk right at that moment, and that they didn’t need to worry.
One mother was seen breastfeeding inside the chapel, even before the Pope wrapped up his homily.
The Pope gave mass as part of the celebration of the lord’s baptism, and the annual ceremony is held on the first Sunday after the January 6 Epiphany.
In the past, Pope Francis has expressed his support of breastfeeding in public. Back in December 2013, he gave an interview with La Stampa and he said that he saw a young mother behind a barrier, and she had a baby who was just a few months old. He said that the child was crying as he went past, and he told the mother that the child seemed hungry. He continued to say that the mother said it was probably time, and he told her to give the child something to eat, but she didn’t want to breastfeed in public.
