The singer, 29-year-old Irma Bule, was known for perfroming while wearing snakes, and the cobra she was wearing the night she died was thought to be defanged.
After Bule was bitten, she continued to perform for 45 minutes, but then she collapsed in front of the audience in the village of Karawang, West Java.
During the performance, Bule accidentally stepped on the snake’s tail. It then bit her thigh and injected venom into her bloodstream. A snake handler had to go on stage and pull it away.
Before Bule was brought to the hospital, she started to vomit and having seizures. She was confirmed dead in the hospital.
One concertgoer said Bule was offered an antidote after she was bitten, but she refused it and kept on performing.
A single bite from a king cobra can release enough venom to kill 20 people or an elephant. The king cobra are usually shy and they avoid humans, but if they are cornered, then they can become extremely aggressive.
Police in Indonesia are investigating the incident.
