Police officer delivers pizza after arresting delivery driver

Explained on the department Facebook page, the officer had pulled over the pizza delivery van in a routine traffic stop. The officer witnessed the pizzeria worker drive through a parking lot to avoid a red light but upon stopping him found the 19-year old driver and male friend guilty of drug-related charges, ending their journey and seemingly that of the warm pizza they were transporting.
As the pair were taken into custody, the officer took it upon himself to deliver the tempting foodstuff to the hungry purchaser. Finding the address on the attached receipt, he completed the journey and delivered the pizza to a location just a few blocks away from where the driver was pulled over.
The resident, who reportedly seemed somewhat confused and bewildered by a policeman presenting his order, accepted the pizza and the cause of the small delay in its arrival. The resident was pleased to discover the reason behind the policeman’s visit after initial concerns that they wanted to speak to him about something more significant than his innocent pre-cooked meal.
Police Chief Jeff Burgner told Only Oswego “We try to do all we can to help our residents, but I think this is the first time we’ve delivered a pizza.”
The police phrase “protect and serve” is particularly fitting to this incident. Seemingly, “serve” can be interpreted to involve food too as part of a policeman’s assistance to the public.
