Former Peruvian President left hospital Tuesday after a health scare and returned to prison, where he is serving a 25-year sentence for corruption and human rights violations.
The 77-year-old ex-leader, who has had a series of health problems, was treated for inflammation of the stomach and small intestine and sent back to jail after undergoing a series of tests, said Julio Magan, head of the national prison service.
He said Fujimori was treated for severe gastritis and erosive inflammation of the upper small intestine with bleeding.
"They also carried out some tests on his head and neck. The results haven't come back yet," he told radio network RPP.
The former president was transferred under heavy guard Sunday to a clinic in the capital Lima.
A divisive figure in Peru, Fujimori (1990-2000) founded a political movement that is still a major player on the national scene.
His daughter Keiko is the frontrunner for Peru's presidential election in April.
Fujimori, who also holds Japanese citizenship, was first jailed in 2007 and convicted in 2009 for his role in killings by a death squad targeting supposed members of the Shining Path guerrilla group in the 1990s.
He has also been convicted of embezzlement and bribery.
His children have asked President Ollanta Humala to grant him a reprieve on health grounds. But Humala rejected the request in 2013, saying medical reports indicated Fujimori's condition was not sufficiently serious.
