From one perspective, a coach who was suspended from the NFL for tripping an opposing player had it out for a rich kid. Alosi openly mocked Diddy’s son, Justin, for being a spoiled rich kid. When Diddy took Justin to courtside seats at the NBA All-Star game, Alosi put up photographs of the family and told other players that “While you guys are training, this guy is sitting courtside with his dad.”
When Diddy came to the gym to protest his son’s maltreatment, father and son were both allegedly attacked. Diddy had to defend himself. His representative said that “once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.”
A different perspective is that Justin was a spoiled rich kid who only got into the UCLA football program because of his father and Diddy was a standard overprotective parent. According to former UCLA head football coach Rick Neuheisel, Justin was “a great kid” but at 5’7” was too small to be a dominant football player.
Justin’s football record does not do anything to contradict that statement. As a defensive back, he recorded just one tackle in four appearances last season. In addition to being too small to be an effective football player, Justin skipped several practices.
When Alosi suspended Justin for the summer after another display of his laziness, an irate Diddy stormed into his office like the parent of a Little League player. After yelling expletives at Alosi, Diddy allegedly attacked Alosi with his fists.
Interns and other personnel dragged Diddy out of the office and into the weight room. Diddy then allegedly picked up a kettlebell, a type of barbell, and then swung it. When police and UCLA security arrived, they arrested Diddy after reviewing security videotapes.
The trial date for the case is currently set for July 13. Diddy is currently out on bail.
This incident would not be the first time that he has appeared in court. In 1999, he was acquitted of bribery and weapons-related charges in regards to a shooting at a New York nightclub. Diddy was also charged that same year for beating an executive. After Combs apologized, he was ordered to attend anger management classes.
