Op-Ed: Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski charged with battery

Fields publicly stated that Lewandowski grabbed her by the arm and pulled her away as she was trying to ask Trump a question. Shortly after speaking out, Field’s resigned from Breitbart.com due to their defense of Trump and lack of support for her. Ben Shapiro, a personal friend of Fields and Braitbart’s editor-in-chief also resigned following the incident. Other reporters at the event confirmed that Fields was telling the truth and came out publicly to support her.

Right after the accusations by Fields were made, Lewandowski tweeted at her saying, “You are totally delusional. I never touched you. As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.”

Michelle then tweeted back the following picture with the caption, “I guess these just magically appeared on me @CLewandowski_ @realDonaldTrump. So weird.”

After weeks of very little talk of the incident, a new surveillance video by the Jupiter police department was released today showing Lewandowski clearly grabbing Fields and pulling her away from Trump. The video is evidence that Lewandowski and Donald Trump both initially lied about the incident in an attempt to cover it up.

Even with the new evidence, Donald Trump shamelessly continues to stand behind his campaign manger, tweeting earlier today, “Wow, Corey Lewandowski, my campaign manager and a very decent man, was just charged with assaulting a reporter. Look at tapes-nothing there!”

Police chief Frank Kitzerow told The Palm Beach Post that Lewandowski turned himself in this morning and is expected to enter a “not guilty” plea.

This is all comes just before the very important Wisconsin primary on April 5 where Trump’s main rival Ted Cruz is campaigning strong and just got the endorsement of Governor Scott Walker. The Cruz campaign commented to Teddy Schleifer of CNN on the new developments of the incident by saying, “Personal attacks, verbal attacks and now physical attacks have no place in politics or anywhere else in our society.”

We’ll just have to wait and see if this incident will hurt Trump’s performances at the polls or the voting booths. Given what we’ve seen from his supporters in the past, one has to be skeptical.
