Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is apparently not taking her public apology last month seriously – after comparing mask and vaccine mandates to the Holocaust.
She made her apology after visiting the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington. At that time, she told CNN that she sought to make clear in her apology that “there is no comparison to the Holocaust” and called it “appalling” that some people will “minimize it and downplay it or don’t even know about it.”
On Tuesday, Greene compared officials carrying out President Joe Biden’s latest Covid-19 vaccination push to Nazi-era “brown shirts,” a direct reference to the term “brownshirts” that was used to describe the paramilitary group that helped Hitler and the Nazis rise to power in Germany in the 1920s and ’30s.
During a press conference on Tuesday, President Joe Biden described his administration’s new COVID-19 vaccine initiative as being one that will involve “literally knocking on doors” to convince people to get their shots.”
The comment apparently set the GOP representative off again, although it doesn’t take much to get her hackles up. Greene’s full tweet is absurd in its content and clearly shows her level of ignorance – and that is really sad, seeing she is a lawmaker representing the voters in her district.
And Greene is ignorant – And she is a liar. The Pfizer vaccine, along with the Moderna and Johnson&Johnson vaccines in the United States have emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration and have proven to be safe and effective in clinical trials. The vaccines are not yet fully approved by the FDA.
The Washington Post reports the offices of Greene and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy didn’t respond to a request for comment on Greene’s latest remarks, but White House press secretary Jen Psaki made her thoughts known.
“It’s up to every individual to decide whether they’re going to get vaccinated, but … this is about protecting people and saving lives,” she told CNN, adding, “We don’t take any of our health and medical advice from Marjorie Taylor Greene. I can assure everyone of that.”
It looks like the GOP leadership in Congress is going to let this latest gaffe by Greene pass, not even washing her mouth out with a bar of soap. It might be better if they just stuck one of Trump’s dirty socks in her mouth, though.
