“I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week,” the president told his almost 31 million Twitter followers on Saturday, according to Reuters.
Our egotistical President can’t stand not being in the spotlight, regardless of the issue, and the biggest issue, next to the Russia probe for many citizens around the world is Trump’s stance on climate change.
Trump has already broken with policy. In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the G7 summit, Trump said America is reviewing its climate policies, even though the other G7 members remain committed to the Paris Agreement. And the president’s stance against climate change as a science and as an international issue is disturbing, to say the least.
But now there is a new story out, and whether it is true or not is uncertain and I feel that putting it in a headline would be wrong, but one website is saying that they were told by White House “confidants” of the president that he is indeed planning to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement, reports The Hill.
According to three sources with “direct knowledge,” Trump has told “multiple people. including EPA head Scott Pruitt, that he plans to leave the Paris agreement on climate change,” reports Axios.
And while the news media spouted headlines that Trump aides said his thoughts on climate change were “evolving,” he was not swayed by the arguments from Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, France’s President Emmanuel Macron and others who are worried about the U.S. pulling out of the international agreement signed by nearly 200 nations.
And Scott Pruitt, ever the optimist, has now been pushing his aides in the EPA to work with outside supporters in getting as many Op/Eds written in major newspapers in favor of pulling out of the Paris accord. Pruitt, in the meantime, was told by the White House to stop with the TV appearances.
Pruitt told staffers that the president wants him (Pruitt) to keep a low profile and doesn’t want pulling out of the agreement to be seen as a victory for Pruitt. “It needs to be the President’s victory,” one source said, (paraphrasing what Pruitt has told aides.)
So here we are on a Sunday morning, our attention and the whole world’s attention glued to the Trump administration as it has been since the man took office, waiting in anticipation for the final word, or not – Trump has been known to switch tactics, coming out with something totally different than what he was expected to say.
But Mr. Trump loves being in the limelight. He showed that on his overseas trip, pushing other leaders out of the way to get to the head of the pack, just like the Alpha male he is. And I bet he will milk this latest issue to its full extent.
