Current evidence is that “an explosion” is the best guess, either fuel or some other event. According to reports, the UK and US are “concerned” that an IS bomb may have been planted on the Russian plane, in the absence of other evidence of flight issues. Let’s examine this in a little more depth than a press release, shall we?
1. If any kind of explosive or munitions were used, i.e., a ground to air missile or a bomb, there would be residue of those materials all over the wreckage.
2. There is so far no solid evidence at all, other than an IS claim, that IS was involved.
3. Giving IS credit for an atrocity they didn’t commit is arguably worse than giving them credit for their many other atrocities. Even if they didn’t do a damn thing, they’re now being given implied credit for the incident.
The most likely reason for this position on the part of the UK and U.S., taken without official proof so far, is to put Russia on the spot. This is perhaps a sort of consolation prize for the failure to influence Russian actions in Syria. The U.S. has been saying for some time that Russian involvement in Syria will add fuel to the fire in the region.
So, by this logic, saying the Russian plane crash was caused by IS is evidence of this sage, remarkably useless, wisdom. In the absence of any actual achievements on the ground whatsoever, the West is claiming to know better — and gives IS some invaluable free propaganda and credibility it could otherwise never have.
Add to this the likelihood that this global propaganda freebie will now encourage IS to try putting bombs on planes all over the world. IS uses its cannon fodder to get publicity, remember, chickens? It’s a real masterpiece of own goal psychology on the part of the West, to score a quite trivial point against the Russians. A few hundred people die, and they come up with “We told you so!”
Nauseating, at best. When 38 Australians died over the Ukraine in a supposed missile attack, we didn’t get the “give the enemy credit” routine. We got macro-level “diplomacy,” not call a spade a spade.
It’s no wonder conspiracy theories have gone out of fashion. Who needs conspiracies, when we have so many highly qualified and highly paid morons prepared to do so much to improve the public image of the enemy?
