The Halloween message remains to have fun and enjoy. Despite the mainstream.

Halloween is a much-loved occasion. It dates back to at least ancient times in Ireland, where it’s still known as Samhain. It’s pronounced Sow-wen in Gaelic for those wondering for all these years. In practice, it’s probably much older, because it coincides with the Autumn solstice, a feast time after harvest.

The good news for everybody is and always has been that this event is a let off from the mainstream. You can dress up as anything, and nobody asks why.

It’s very much a cultural thing, in a culture which lacks anything resembling culture.

In America, Halloween is still a rock-solid fixture. It’s anyone’s guess what the no-fun brigade thinks of it, but nobody has ever cared. It’s a genuine celebration, and there’s not a lot to celebrate on Earth these days.

The rest of the English-speaking world has been a bit slow. Despite Disney Halloween and the noble efforts of Donald Duck and Witch Hazel, it took a while. Good movies have been adapted into costumes. It took decades.

Then there are the costumes. Even celebrities wear Halloween costumes, however redundant that may be. The mainstream costumes have truly tanked with some of the least imaginative stuff I think I’ve ever seen. Just check the tabs for Halloween costumes on this link, and see if you can find a working brain.

It’s worse than New York Fashion Week.

The dead have risen and are charging a fortune for total tack.

“Bland” is way too polite for this primitive 1950s dreck. No 3D prints, no custom designs, nothing that a commercial T-shirt print couldn’t do better in seconds.

This isn’t “mid”.

It’s mud.

If that makes you mad, you may need a med.

I have no doubt that some geriatric 30-year-old is looking on indulgently from on high. It’s garbage.

Put it under stage lights, and it’s worse. You can see why Freddy Krueger retired.

The Halloween message remains to have fun and enjoy. Despite the mainstream.
