Disinfected, clean, and in-optimal-conditions units await for Canadians in Cancun to return to provide them unforgettable experiences. A new company stays ready in Cancun for when international travel restrictions are lifted in Canada.
Cancun Airport expects to receive more Canadians than in 2019
After the announcement by the Government of Canada to reopen international borders on September 7, Canadian flights will return to the Mexican Caribbean. Cancun expects to receive more Canadians than before the pandemic, being that until December 2021 a huge number of seats are scheduled.
The destinations with the most scheduled flight seats from Canada to Mexico are: Cancun with 81,007 seats and Mexico City with 78,432 seats. The tourism secretariat foresees that just Air Canada will handle approximately 196 thousand passengers between September and December of this year, surpassing the 171,617 passengers transported in the same period of 2019.
The airline is getting ready to return to Mexico with 22 weekly flights from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, on Boeing 737-8 aircraft for 169 passengers in its two Business and Economy cabins.
During the second trimester of the year, more countries have made the decision to reopen their borders, prompting flights resumption for many airlines in the world. Canada is one of the most anticipated destinations to reopen for the Mexican Caribbean, being that Canadians used to be one of the main visitors before the pandemic. The wait has been long, more than 7 months already. The resumption was originally scheduled for May 2021, and has been postponed ever since.
Cancun Airport recovery
The tourism reduction in Cancun last year as a result of the pandemic was unprecedented. In total, 6.8 million people visited the city in 2020, up from more than 16 million in the previous two years.
For the past few months, Cancun Airport has shown a remarkable improvement in flight operations. Only in June, the Airport received more than 2 million passengers. If that wasn’t enough, more than 500 daily operations were registered in July, almost surpassing last year’s numbers, and the trend continues to rise.
Benefited companies
Many companies have also benefited from such recovery; Restaurants, Stores and Tour operators are now increasing their revenues. Transportation companies are the most requested by passengers. Cancun Shuttle, a new Cancun Airport Transportation company in Cancun, is on the list, as are other companies providing reliable, comfortable and safe transportation services. Not to mention that more Airlines are now pointing to Cancun to open new flights due to the high demand of the destination. Which also generates more hotel occupancy, benefiting the hotel industry workers in Cancún.
New Cancun Shuttle company
Just as most international travelers, people from Canada traveling to Cancun often use private transportation services to move around the Caribbean destination. There is some good news in regards to this, a new company providing Cancun Shuttle services offers both private and shared options for those who like to keep to themselves and for those who don’t mind sharing a ride with other travelers. Private services range from vans to limos, so there are plenty of options to choose from, including luxury SUVs which are the most preferred by travelers from Canada and other countries.
New safety measures
Air travel has changed drastically over the last year. However, thanks to the quick government response to adapt to the new sanitary protocols, the airport wasn’t affected by these measures. One of the most important travel requirements is a negative COVID test that many countries are now requesting to enter their territories. Fortunately, Cancun Airport implemented COVID testing units at its facilities last January, which makes it easier for travelers to return to their country, helping them evade trip cancellations due to the lack of COVID test points.
