MIT police officer killed, ‘active shooter’ near Stata Center

On the MIT website as of 11:11 p.m. ET, a large message read: “There are gunshots reported in the vicinity of Building 32 (Stata Center). Area is cordoned off. Stay away from area. Click here for more information.”

According to the Twitter feed from The Tech, MIT’s long-time student newspaper, a police officer was shot down after 10:30 p.m. ET. Later, the MIT News feed messaged: “There is a report of an active shooter in the vicinity of Bldg. 32.”

At 11:20 p.m., the Tech later tweeted: “The officer was an MIT police officer and was taken to MGH.”

Just after midnight, NBC Connecticut told us: “Mass State Police confirm #MIT officer wounded in shooting has died.”

The area surrounding Building 32 has been cordoned off.

A 7-11 nearby was robbed, but it’s unclear if the robbery is linked to this shooting.

No suspect has been identified. MIT says an investigation is underway. Police and FBI units have surrounded the area.
