Madison Turner spoke of the incident, which happened last week in Cobb County, GA, and said the police officer told him three times that he couldn’t just go down the road eating a hamburger.
According to NY Daily News, Turner said that the officer told him that he observed him eating a burger for two miles. Essentially, he was pulled over and ticketed for distracted driving.
The officer wrote “eating while driving” under the comments sections of the ticket.
The state’s driving distracted driving law says A driver shall exercise due care in operating a motor vehicle on the highways of this state and shall not engage in any actions which shall distract such driver from the safe operation of such vehicle.
Turner admit that he may have been enjoying his burger a little too much and maybe he needed to tone it down a bit. He continued to say that he was willing to do so, and that he didn’t expect to be punished or fined as a result of the incident.
William Head, a DUI and traffic attorney, who is not representing Turner, said that he would have to hire more attorneys if this was the law because everybody does it, himself included.
Head added that the only time he has seen something like this is when an accident has occurred, and this is why Turner being charged with eating and driving is a first for him.
Turner will head to court on Feb.3.
