Krispy Kreme was going to run the promotion this week. Lafeea Watson, a spokesperson for the company, said that they believe that the incident was an unintentional oversight by their franchise partners in the UK.
Watson said that they were sorry for any inconvenience that this incident may have caused and they were sorry if anybody was offended by it. She continued to say that action was taken quickly, and the materials related to the promotion was removed online and in stores.
KKK is infamously associated with the white supremacist group, the ku Klux Klan, but in the promotion the letters KKK stood for Krispy Kreme Klub.
A spokeswoman for the Krispy Kreme store in Hull said that the event is still going on as planned, but a new name has not been given to it.
The promotion is aimed at kids, who are currently on half-term holidays from school. The kids will be able to decorate their own donuts.
Krispy Kreme’s headquarters is in North Carolina, but has stores that are located around the globe. The first store in the UK was opened up back in 2003, and the company currently has dozens of locations in key cities. Krispy Kreme also has partnerships with a number of supermarkets and gas stations.
