Iraq peshmerga fighters join Kobane battle

-

Some 150 Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters joined the battle against Islamic State (IS) jihadists in the Syrian town of Kobane on Friday, crossing the border from Turkey, a monitor said.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights head Rami Abdel Rahman said the peshmerga crossed the border with their heavy weaponry from Tal al-Shair, west of the town.

An AFP correspondent on Turkey's side of the border said earlier they left a Turkish military warehouse after a three-day wait to head for Kobane and reinforce Syrian Kurds battling the IS.
