Indian PM Modi invites suggestions on Yoga Day promotion

Modi used Twitter to send out his invitation. “Share your ideas and inputs on marking the first ever `International Day of Yoga`, on this MyGov Open Forum.” he tweeted.

The MyGov platform is an online database of government initiatives, and is also used as a participatory governance initiative, where Indian citizens can share ideas with government officials about various government programs and initiatives.

Modi also invited Indians living abroad to share their input on how Indian embassies can function better. “Friends from the diaspora, share your inputs on certain aspects pertaining to our Embassies abroad.” “The inputs on the Embassies received through MyGov would be very valuable for the Conference of Heads of Mission, being held in February”, he added.

Modi earlier called for the adoption of an “International Yoga Day” during his speech at the UN General Assembly, during his five-day visit to the United States in September. The UNGA formally adopted the resolution later that year.

Modi had proposed that yoga could be a solution for better individual and global harmony, and referred to research that showed how yoga benefits health and well-being. However, Modi also went beyond today’s popular perception of yoga as a fitness-oriented practice, and called for promoting the spiritual aspects of the practice.
