‘I want to be Ross Phelps, sorry I meant Michael Phelps’

-

Olympic ice dance champion Scott Moir got tongue-tied in his enthusiasm for the new Olympic team event on Thursday which could give him two gold medals in Sochi.

"I'd like to be Ross Phelps and come and get eight (gold)," said a red-faced Moir before correcting himself.

"I meant Michael Phelps. Ross Phelps is a volunteer from Skate Canada."

Michael Phelps holds a record 18 gold medals at the summer Olympics, winning eight of those at the 2008 Beijing Games.

"It's easy for some people to overlook the team event but it's an Olympic gold medal. We feel really lucky to be able to go after two gold medals," said two-time world champion Moir, who competes for Canada with Tessa Virtue.
