The full-scale war in Ukraine is now in its 14th month. Russia is constantly changing tactics but is regularly defeated. The whole world has united to help the country suffering from the aggressor.

At the same time, the Ukrainian fintech business is creating collaborations with government projects to bring its nation closer to victory. For example, the fintech company Tranzzo cooperates with the international fundraising platform UNITED24 as a payment partner. Tranzzo’s solutions ensure smooth donations acceptance in support of Ukraine via the platform website, including during significant charity fundraisers for the country’s defence. One of these fundraisers for Shahed Hunter, a system to counter Iranian UAVs, was organised by Timothy Snyder, a well-known American historian, writer and ambassador of the UNITED24 project.

Tranzzo and UNITED24 Collaboration

International fintech platform Tranzzo has implemented card payments worldwide on the UNITED24 website and made the process as user-friendly as possible. Holders of bank cards from every country in the world can go to the project’s website and transfer funds for defence and mine clearance, medical aid or reconstruction of Ukraine.

As well as regular donations, the project often organises extensive charity fundraisers for specific purposes, such as rebuilding houses, buying equipment for paramedics or the military, etc.

“Tranzzo’s objective during such significant fundraisers is to ensure stable acceptance and high payment conversion even when the payment volume increases drastically tenfold,” emphasises Tranzzo CEO Margarita Ochigava. “After a new fundraiser via UNITED24 is announced, the number of transactions often increases rapidly. The project is promoted through different media resources, and the users start donating actively. At this point, it is important that the payment acceptance system can withstand a load of many transactions without anything ‘breaking down’,” says Tranzzo CEO Margarita Ochigava.

Timothy Snyder’s Charity Fundraiser for Shahed Hunter

Timothy Snyder became an ambassador for the UNITED24 fundraising platform in the autumn of 2022. The prominent American historian joined other celebrities to promote the idea of supporting Ukraine. Snyder is a professor at Yale University, writer and author of the video lecture course “The Making of Modern Ukraine”, which has already reached almost 3 million views.

On 15 November 2022, Timothy Snyder and UNITED24 launched a historic charity fundraiser for a system codenamed Shahed Hunter to counter Iranian kamikaze drones. Manufactured in Iran, Shahed 136 UAVs are regularly used by Russia to attack Ukraine. They destroy critical infrastructure and hit houses, schools, and hospitals. Ukrainian air defence systems are powerless against drones, while Shahed Hunter helps detect and shoot them down. These are the systems in service with NATO countries.

Timothy Snyder’s fundraising goal was to raise $1,250,000 to buy Shahed Hunter for Ukraine. Tranzzo’s main aim as a payment partner of UNITED24 was to ensure stable acceptance and high conversion rates under all conditions. Thus, after active promotion, the number of payments increased 40 times on the second day of the campaign. Nevertheless, the system continued to work and process the transactions, and people kept transferring funds. On 11 February 2023, Timothy Snyder’s fundraiser campaign for Shahed Hunter was closed. A Yale professor raised $1,268,196 for a system to counter enemy drones.

The Secret of Tranzzo’s Efficiency

“To ensure stable payment acceptance through UNITED24, the Tranzzo team performed the analysis, made a preliminary forecast of the transaction load, and set up the system to operate smoothly even during peak payment growth,” says Margarita Ochigava.

The SLA (service level agreement) was 99,9%. It means that the system was available 99.9% of the time. This result was achieved due to efficiently designed monitoring using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tools.

The Tranzzo payment platform is based on a microservice architecture. Tranzzo uses GCP Logged-based metrics to monitor and analyse microservice operations. This tool helps to collect and analyse the monitoring data (logs) generated by the various system components. Based on the logs, a certain set of metrics is recorded that can be used to evaluate the system’s performance – server response speed, number of errors, load, etc.

The process is configured as follows: the Tranzzo system receives client requests, microservices generate logs, GCP tools collect metrics and report when a problem occurs.

“This approach allows the Tranzzo team to eliminate errors as quickly as possible (if they occur), the system continues to work, and payment conversion remains consistently high,” says the company’s CEO.

One of the significant benefits of GCP for handling payments is the automatic scaling of resources. If the number of payments increases significantly, the service automatically increases the servers’ capacity. Thus, the system operates without failures and delays in any traffic.

By combining their efforts, expertise in IT technology and payment solutions, Ukrainian specialists are doing their utmost to speed up their country’s victory. The task of the entire civilised world is to unite in support of Ukraine and assist in stopping the barbarian state.
