Gunman opens fire while in line at a Wendy’s drive thru

Two unidentified men sustained injuries resulting from broken glass after a gunman opened fire from inside a sports-utility vehicle while in line at a Wendy’s drive-thru.
The altercation occurred in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the city’s south side about 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
Police report the driver of the SUV cut in line ahead of the victim’s vehicle as they waited to order food from the restaurant, enraging the men. A dispute ensued, and an armed passenger in the SUV reportedly opened fire on the men in the car behind them.
The victims were taken to nearby John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and are listed in stable condition. They were not directly hit by the gunfire, and their injuries apparently were the result of shattered glass.
A woman reportedly operating the SUV sped off after the shots were fired. So far, no arrests have been made.
Police were still collecting evidence early Friday. An area of the drive-thru had been roped off, and a dark colored automobile could be seen with its rear window shattered.
