Full recovery expected after surgery for cow with six legs

Lilli, who was born with six legs on a farm in Weissenburg, Switzerland, is recuperating in an Alpine animal sanctuary, according to media reports.

When she was first born with extra legs attached to her shoulder, veterinians predicted Lilli would die soon after. But she survived and recently underwent the four-hour surgery to remove the legs.

According to vet Auto Zardiashvili, this mutation may be due to issues at conception.

One lamb born in January, also with six legs, appears to have some amount of control of all its legs.
“Most probably there were twins, but then the embryos were united, and we’ve got a strange lamb,” Zardiashvili said, according to the Daily Mail.

Similar animal mutations made headlines earlier this year. A six-legged lamb was reportedly born in Georgia, and in 2011 Digital Journal reported on a two-headed albino snake amazing onlookers at a Ukrainian zoo.
