Free blogger Badawi ‘immediately’, EU parliament head tells Saudi king

EU Parliament President Martin Schulz, announcing the prestigious Sakharov award for Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, called Thursday on Saudi King Salman to free him immediately and to ensure the respect of human rights.

"I call on the Saudi king to immediately free him," Schulz told a packed assembly, adding that the 28-nation European Union expected its partners to live up to its standards on the crucial question of human rights.
