Finnish police wants public to report cheap pizzas

Finnish police have publicized a new campaign on social media accounts. The campaign asks the public to come forward with information if they spot pizza being sold for under six euros. The Uusimaa police department said there is no way a legit business could offer a pizza for less than six euros, unless the business was having a temporary sale.

The reason why authorities want consumers to come forward is because police are attempting to crack down on what is known as the grey economy, which costs Finland millions of euros in lost tax revenue every single year. Regardless of the value of the pizza, police said that people should make sure they get receipts for their pizzas, as this is how they can verify if the business is legit.

Authorities in Finland say eateries would have to sell pizza at more than six euros in order to make a profit, as well as pay all of the taxes due. Authorities explained that if restaurants sell pizza below that price, then they are probably up to something.

Police say cheap pizza seems nice, especially when food prices are high enough, but too cheap makes it possible for some business owners to hatch-up money-grabbing schemes.
