FacePalm Friday: Santa Claus robs store on Christmas Eve

This is my weekly column FacePalm Friday, where I take a look at offbeat news. You can go and read my previous FacePalm Friday article here.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the man walked into Ware’s Jewelry, which is located in Stettler, and pointed a gun at an employee.

After the Santa was handed precious metals and stones, he ran from the store and got into a Hummer.

Authorities believe a second vehicle may have followed the Hummer, which was found abandoned. Police said the timing was close together from when the Hummer went down a roadway and when an older Chevy truck came the other way.

The Hummer was reported stolen about a year ago and has now been recovered. Authorities are now figuring out how the Hummer ended up parked in Stettler.

The man may have worn a Santa suit as part of a strategy. Sergeant Phil Penny said he has seen other robbers wear wigs and garish sweaters. Penny said robbers may choose costumes in an effort to distract their victims from spotting details that could identify them.

Nobody was hurt during the robbery, but police are still looking for the robber. If anybody has information, then they can contact Stettler RCMP at 403-742-3382. The suspect has been described as a white male, 6 feet tall with blond hair and acne scars on his face.
