In a recent speech given in the key state of Iowa, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump stirred the pot of controversy again. His candidacy has been rife with things said that seemed to outrage everyone but his ardent supporters. In the most recent speech, according to the Daily Mail, he stated that you had to give “credit” to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un for the way he stepped into office and handled his rivals.
The Star quoted Trump as saying, “You’ve got to give him credit. How many young guys – he was like 25 or 26 when his father died – take over these tough generals. How does he do that? Even though it is a culture, and it’s a cultural thing, he goes in, he takes over, he’s the boss. It’s incredible.”
Trump did go on to state that Un was a “maniac” according to the Detroit News, and that his reason for stating this is because Un does not “play games” and that the U.S. cannot play games when it comes to dealing with him.
Un, of course, came into power after his father, Kim Jong-Il, died. One of the first thing he did upon stepping into control was arrest and execute a number of potential political rivals, including his own uncle.
In recent weeks North Korea has made the news by declaring that they had exploded a hydrogen bomb. Several scientists have said that it was unlikely that they had done so, but that they definitely had nuclear weapons. The country also has missiles that it is believed could reach the west coast of the United States if fired.
This is not the first time a controversial leader has been mentioned or involved in the Trump campaign. In December Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Trump, an accolade that Trump publicly accepted.
