Digital Journal – On the heels of the success of live blogging the first presidential debate on Friday, DigitalJournal.com is once again covering another intriguing political debate raising expectations: John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin and Barack Obama’s vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden will square off at Washington University in St. Louis, MO at 9 p.m. EDT on Thursday Oct. 2. The presidential debate on Friday attracted hundreds of comments and thousands of views, as readers flocked to DigitalJournal.com to take part in the first debate of the political season (check out our full transcript and comments and feedback here).
The vice-presidential debate will serve as a white-knuckle moment for the two parties. Palin has a penchant for jokey references and blunt declarations, but political observers say she needs a crash course in foreign policy. Biden is strong on foreign policy but has “an affinity for extemporaneous speech that can cause him trouble,” as Associated Press reports.
The Obama camp expects an intense debate on Thursday. Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod told reporters “I think it would be foolish to assume that this isn’t going to be a really challenging debate. We’re preparing for that, on that assumption.”
Palin and Biden will be questioned by Gwen Ifill, senior correspondent on the PBS show The NewsHour. Under the format, each candidate will have 90 seconds to respond to a question, followed by a two-minute discussion.
